“Utilising fungal-digital mycorrhizal interfaces, a fungus has bound its mycelial network to telecommunications cables and is accessing the computer of a filmmaker. It is unknown what is driving this. The resulting fungal explorations in cyberspace are documented via screen recording, and when watched back this material raises questions of the 'fungal' properties of physical, digital and social infrastructures.”

>DiGi-Fungal_Bitr0t is an experiment in fantastical multispecies ethnography, acting as a space to contemplate fungi as agentive beings, objects of representation, and -perhaps- cybernetic kins.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Sam (he/him) is an artist, filmmaker, curator and organiser based in London. Through both his filmmaking and organising, Sam wants to help build ways of working and collaborating that refuse the hegemony of institutions, foreground accessibility and foster polyvocality. Sam is a member of KONTEKST Collective.

Drawing from a background in the natural sciences, as well as his love for science-fiction, Sam plays with fantasy as a multimodal space for unpredictable, holistic and critical filmmaking. His films pose questions regarding multispecies assemblages, technology and environmental exploitation.
