Sympathetic Fluids playfully negotiates this realm of curiosity and confusion by reflecting on the paradoxes of science and the constant human pursuit of knowledge. Through humour and collage-like elements, it sharpens our senses for what we take for granted.

Lichenlike posits the artist’s own body, and the tools of filmmaking itself, as a bridge between human and lichen experience. In an aesthetical and introspective exercise, we are made to ponder over the emotional connections we create with the beings around us.

>DiGi-Fungal_Bit0t takes fantastical world-building as an opportunity to blur distinctions between human, fungus and technology, showcasing the power storytelling has to question assumptions and modes of being in the world.

And lastly, The Sound of Woodwalks us through the rich world of craft to show us how it draws from living, material sources from the environment. Music, then, takes on a tactile engagement as we acknowledge wood’s influence on this respective cultural expression.

All together, these films shed a kaleidoscopic effect on our theme, cutting through the boundaries between perceived ‘nature’ and ‘culture’, and leading into a nuanced collective discussion on the shortcomings of translating non-human perspectives or forming more-than-human collaborations. In these experimental approaches, the miscommunications and contradictions are a part of the process of developing new social patterns with and in the world.

Rossella Sette (she/her) is an emerging researcher in linguistics, and her work explores the intersection of language and ecology, with a focus on how language and other modes of communication perpetuate or challenge anthropocentric worldviews. Rossella’s master’s dissertation, in which she analyses the London zoo signage, is featured in our first publication titled Texts in KONTEKST: vol 1. Entanglements which will be officially launched at the symposium on the festival Sunday 19th July.

Emelie Victoria (she/they) is a Swedish/Norwegian artist and researcher whose projects take a multi species approach to examine how regimes of conservation, extraction, and care are negotiated through everyday practices and sensory encounters. Emelie is the co-director of Il Suono del Legno (The Sound of Wood) and a member of the KFF2026 programming team.
