NEW ALTERATIONS CRIT CLUB x KONTEKST OPEN DAY

  • 80-20 Wines, 56 Peckham Rye Peckham Rye London, England, SE15 4JR United Kingdom (map)

a new workshop and collaborative space for emerging filmmakers

Our second ever event is taking place next month and we are gearing up to see new material.

This time around we are curating our events around themes and will be showing your work alongside shorts and excerpts of longer work from filmmakers we admire. Through discussion we hope to deconstruct the evolution of different creative visions and how to strengthen them going forward in your work.

We are also presenting this event alongside KONTEKST Collective @kontekst.collective who will be announcing their future events and ways to get involved! We are looking forward to more collaboration with them 🀝🏼

Club Ethos: New Alterations Crit Club is a place for emerging filmmakers to have a community, gain inspiration, and build their practice. We understand how valuable feedback is and how it can often be inaccessible or overlooked. We want to create an environment of individuals with diverse backgrounds that can provide new perspectives and dissolve some of that tunnel vision. Community is important in any discipline and especially one that falls prey to commercialism and sensationalism. Let’s support each other in all our visions, lean into the metaphysical, the instinctual, the esoteric.

Description:
Our crit events will consist of work-in-progress screenings and discussions on what the vision is and how to get there with improvements or new angles. Each event will consist of 3 to 4 films depending on length with a 15 minute discussion period for each.

Schedule:

  • 7:00 – start of event, meet & greet

  • 7:30 – introduction of event and how it will work (10 min)

  • 7:40-8:30 – screen 2 films or 1 longer film with 15 min discussion each

  • 8:30 – 10 min break

  • 8:40-10:00 – screen 2 films or 1 longer film with 15 min discussion each

Past Event: Our most recent event and first one we’ve put on was also at 80-20 Wines in Peckham and was a success. We screened five films and felt that it was a bit strenuous on the audience and thought three long or 2 long 2 short films would be better suited for the event. A potential break in the middle could help lighten the mental load on the audience as well.

We screened each film and allowed for a loose 15 minute open discussion after. It was pretty manageable to keep on time while also allowing for enough discussion to be beneficial for the filmmaker.

You can send your work for the 24/09 crit through this submission form.

Facilitated by: Tosin Adegoke & Kate Peddicord (New Alterations), supported by Emelie Victoria & Arti Siudem (KONTEKST).
