  2. How to organise events with KONTEKST // use our platform for promo?

Our approach to running events:

One of the key goals of KONTEKST as a platform is to organise engaging and accessible public events to eg.: make more people familiar with the discipline of visual anthropology, promote critical engagement with images, facilitate media literacy, and to feature work made in particular by up-and-coming critically-minded artists, researchers and storytellers.

Our events platform work that disrupts the status quo, critiques “objective” truth, and reshapes how we experience and interpret the world.

Through running our events, we want to explore the kind and art and filmmaking that emphasises context and exploration as a way to decolonise and imagine an otherwise.

Running events is for us an inherently political thing.

We reject the increasingly normalised imperialist, racist, xenophobic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and ableist discourses and oppose the rhetoric of the growing far-right. By building this platform, we want to connect people who share our values and bring about real-life social change.

We are determined to prioritise work submitted by those who have not yet established themselves as artists - to reflect our grassroots ethos.

We want KONTEKST to serve as a piece of infrastructure that that can be used to amplify important messages from those who do not yet have established audiences.

How to organise events with KONTEKST?

KONTEKST was founded with the intent to function as a horizontal platform for visibility for emerging anthropologists / artists / filmmakers / storytellers and a database of critical creative projects.

We recognise that the creative industry may be hard to get into without prior experience. That is why we encourage upcoming event facilitators to reach out to us and send us proposals for events that we can support, and which you will subsequently be able to take credit for. We are open to supporting various projects as long as they relate to the values in vision that we stated in our manifesto. Your event does not need to take place in London to be under the KONTEKST umbrella - we are open to supporting critical events all around the world.

There are two ways we can help you out:

  1. Event collab

  2. Help with promo

Regardless of what you choose, we don’t claim ownership of what’s run together with us so all credit will fully go to you as the event organiser. We will help with getting an audience and reach.

Here are more details about those two options:

1.
Event collab - for those interested in growing our collective platform:

  • We will include your event in our KONTEKST events programme, using the reputation of our platform to further boost its reach. We will also send you our visuals (such as logos) to use in the promo materials.

  • We will use our communications channels to promote your event. This includes: a mention in the newsletter, post on Instagram and stories, a notice on the Events page on our website. We will also add it to the upcoming events section in our Instagram bio. If you prefer to make a post on Instagram yourself and add us as a collaborator on it, we can accept this as well.

  • We will give you access to our collective’s email inbox (hello@kontekstcollective.com) so you can use it for the event-related communications.

  • We will give you access to our KONTEKST Community group chat so that you can promote the event yourself to our collective members

  • We will make a page for your event on our website. Prior to the event the page will feature all the details and the link to get tickets. After the event the page can include things like: a summary of your event, some photos, event footage, resources, references etc. This way your event will be featured permanently (unless you request it taken down) in our digital archive to boost its reach long-term. Please click here to see an example of an archived event page.

  • We can also make an artist spotlight page for yourself on our website, and add it to our members page, which you are welcome to customise as you wish and use it as a creative portfolio.

2. Help with promo - for those who could benefit from our established network and audience:

  • We will use our communications channels to promote your event. This includes: a mention in the newsletter, post on Instagram and stories, a notice on the Events page on our website. We will also add it to the upcoming events section in our Instagram bio.

  • We will give you access to our KONTEKST Community group chat so that you can promote the event yourself to our collective members

Our platform has a ready audience and connections at hand, and we want KONTEKST to be an umbrella for other critical projects and events. Get in touch with us with your ideas!! We particularly encourage aspiring event programmers with little to no experience to message us and get redits this way.
